2018 Summer Camp Description

Norwich Summer Rec consists of (6) one week sessions beginning on July 2, 2018. Summer Camp is designed to give children the opportunity to participate in fun Sports, Art & Drama, Science & Nature, and Health & Nutrition programs throughout the day. Children will go on adventurous field trips, enjoy special entertainers, and participate in exciting theme weeks including Wacky Wednesday and Fun Friday. Extended care is available.

Children will receive a free Camp Shirt. Camp shirts MUST be worn on field trip days; additional Rec shirt can be purchased at the Recreation office for a fee of $7.

*Please wear comfortable clothing and sneakers only. Children may bring sandals on beach days; bathing suits should be appropriate.

Breakfast/Lunch - Free breakfast and lunch will be provided. Menus can be found here and at the Recreation office. Refrigeration is not available. Small coolers with ice packs are strongly recommended; all water bottles and lunches should be labeled. Please do not use paper bags.

Registration

Registration begins on May 1st for Norwich Residents, May 15th for Non-Residents, and is handled on a first come, first serve basis. Children are not considered registered if payment is not received. Registration is due the Wednesday before each session at 12 noon. There is a $20 late fee for registration’s received after the registration deadline. NO CASH PAYMENTS. Checks, Money Orders, and Debit/Credit are accepted. Check payable to: Norwich Recreation Department; there is a $20 return fee for nonsufficient funds.

Refund Policy - There are NO REFUNDS. Once a payment is made, a spot is reserved for your child. All money goes towards trips, supplies, and payroll.

Scholarships are made possible thanks to a generous grant from the Community Foundation of Eastern CT. Only Norwich residents are eligible for scholarships. Scholarship forms are available at the Recreation Office.


Staff

(1) Summer Rec Director, (2) Team Leaders, (1) First Aid/CPR provider, and (12) Rec Instructors. The staff must be 18 years of age or older and pass a background check. Staff training is provided prior to the start of Rec and throughout the summer. All children are supervised throughout the Rec day and are escorted to program areas, restrooms, and water fountains. 


Behavior Policy
Children are expected to participate in activities, follow Rec rules, and stay with their instructors at all times. We have zero tolerance for verbal, physical, or threatening misbehavior. Children may be suspended and/or removed from the program if necessary. Police will be called if necessary. 

First Aid & Medications
Certified CPR/ First Aid personnel will be on site during program hours. We treat minor cuts, scrapes, and bruises. All other injuries will be referred to parents or proper emergency personnel. The Norwich Recreation Department requires a physician’s written order and parent/guardian authorization for staff to assist with administration of medications. Epi-pens and inhalers must be labeled with child’s name, drug name, dosage, frequency, physicians’ name, and date of original prescription. Children are not allowed to carry sunscreen; please apply at home. You may bring additional sunscreen labeled with your child’s name and give it to the First Aid personnel.

Drop off & Pick-Up

Rec drop off and pick-up will be in the gravel parking lot on the corner of Mahan and Mohegan. Children are not to arrive any earlier that 8:55 am. Children must be signed in and signed out by a parent/guardian. Unscheduled pick-ups are to be done in the Recreation office.

AM & PM - Care drop off and pick up will be in the Recreation building. Children registered for AM Care should be dropped off no earlier than 7:55 am.


Late Pick Up Policy - Rec ends at 3:00 p.m. sharp! Children not picked up by 3:15 p.m. will be taken to the PM Care Program. PM Care ends at 4:00 p.m. sharp! There will be a $20 fee for any children brought to P.M. care and/or picked up late from P.M. care; these fees must be paid prior to returning to Rec.
