Fishing for Norwich Harbor 4/3/16

Posted on April 4, 2016 at 9:38 AM by Josh Pothier

There isn’t much to report at this time. There have been reports of bunker in the harbor area. With cold temps fishing is still hit and miss. It is now less than a week before opening day for our trout fishing friends. This year is the first no closed fishing season on the Yantic River from Norwich Harbor to Indian Leap Falls. The Norwich Harbor Management Commission wishes to pass along the following. There will be a June 11th Kayak trip up the Yantic River guided by Tucker Braddock departing from Thayer’s Marine. The Rock the Docks series will be kicking off with Eight to the Bar on July 6, 2016. For the following five Wednesday nights there will be music from 6-8 PM. Also the Friday night acoustic series was relocated from the harbor to the Norwichtown green.  Please visit the Norwich Chamber's website for more information.

On September 10th The Norwich Harbor Management Commission along with Thayer’s Marine will be hosting a fishing derby on the Thames River from 5 AM-noon. Stay tuned for more details. Tight lines and we wish all of you a great fishing and boating 2016.

Fishing in Norwich 5/8/15

Posted on May 8, 2015 at 11:32 AM by Gerald Martin

Hello all and welcome to our first post of the 2015 fishing season. According to some of the regulars at the harbor bunker is in. They can be snagged. Many are then live lining them to get stripers. Mohegan Park pond (Spaulding pond) is in full swing with the state restocking it every 2 weeks as it is designated as an urban fishing area. Also with that designation comes a 2 fish a day limit. The stocking will continue until water temps are above those able to  sustain trout.
On May 15th and 16th Thayer's Marine will be running their 2nd annual charity fishing derby. You can get details by calling Thayer's marine or checking out their website. After the 4th of July there will be2 nights of music a week at H.T.Brown park. Wednesdays will be the Rock The Docks concert series. On Friday there will be a continuation of the Friday Night Acoustics underneath the gazebo. On Saturday May 9th is CT DEEP free fishing day where no license is required to fish that day. Be careful out there on the water. Tight lines.

Fishing report 6/10/14

Posted on June 10, 2014 at 6:04 PM by Gerald Martin

Fishing still remains good for those willing to put the time in. Stripers in the 30" and a rare 40" class is still holding . Not much has changed pattern wise. Live lining bunker or chunks. Superfluke and poppers produce at times. Get out there. The launch will be closed on June 20,&21. Also on July 4th. Sorry for the inconvience. The Norwich harbor management commission will be running it's 2nd Annual big fish derby Saturday September 13th. Stay tuned for more details. This is a free tournament (no entry fee). Just a friendly competition of anglers for bragging rights and a small trophy. Thayers Marine recently ran a derby on the Thames river. Winning fish was a bit over 40". One another note the Norwich harbor commision will be bringing some acoustic music to the gazebo area of Howard T Brown park. On Friday July 25th Norwich's own Bill Thibeault and his group Bohemian Picnic will play 6-8 PM. On Friday August 8th Rambling Dan Stevens will be under the gazebo. The boat launch will be open. Take care and tight lines.
