The Tax Office will be open until 4:30 pm on weekdays in July to collect the bills which will be mailed out for July 1, 2018.
We encourage customers to pay their taxes on time and by the most efficient method possible. Because of reductions in staffing, we advise customers only to pay in-person at the Tax Office if they have questions or issues with their bills. The lines in City Hall can be quite lengthy in July. The most efficient ways for customers to pay taxes are:
- Mail in Payments
- Pay In-Person at any PeoplesUnited Bank branch during July
- Pay Online
Delinquent Tax Collection
The City of Norwich recently switched from Rossi Law Offices to TaxServ Capital Services for collection agency services. We are in the process of transferring motor vehicle and personal property accounts from Rossi to TaxServ. Like Rossi, TaxServ charges an additional 15% fee to customers on their delinquent balances.
Until June 30, 2018 all outstanding motor vehicle taxes will be payable on our website or at our offices AT NO ADDITIONAL COST. As of July 1, 2018 any and all older outstanding Motor Vehicle bills from the 2015 grand list and prior will be placed with TaxServ and additional fees will apply.
We encourage delinquent customers to pay their outstanding balances as soon as possible in order to avoid any further escalation of collection efforts and related increases in fees owed.
