Winter Parking Ban/ Sidewalk Snow Removal
The Norwich Police Department is reminding residents, visitors, and motorists that the City of Norwich Traffic Regulation section 9.82 prohibits parking on the odd side of all city streets during winter snow storm snow removal operations by the Public Works Department and Connecticut DOT Highway Maintenance Crews.

The narrowness of certain city streets require that no parking be allowed on either side of the street (see attached regulation list) in order to allow for safe and efficient snow removal operation by the highway maintenance crews.

Vehicles found in violation of the winter storm parking ban may be towed at the owner’s expense. Owners of vehicles violating the snow emergency parking ban are subject to a $25.00 fine, as well as the towing expense.

In addition, property owners and occupants are reminded that they are required by Norwich City Ordinance section 19-1 to remove all snow and sleet from the sidewalks abutting their property within twelve (12) hours following a storm ending during daylight hours or six (6) hours after sunrise for a storm ending during the night hours..

The Police and Public Works Departments are seeking the cooperation of the public during winter storm emergencies so that snow can be safely and effectively removed from our streets and highways.

It is unlawful at any time during any snow emergency under the provisions of the snow emergency regulations for the registered owner or lessee of any vehicle to park on EITHER SIDE of the following streets:

  1. Old Cemetery Lane
  2. North Cliff Street
  3. Shetucket Avenue (Taftville)
  4. Terrace Avenue (Taftville)
