| What is the sidewalk incentive program? |
SIDEWALK INCENTIVE PROGRAMS
The City of Norwich offers two sidewalk programs to property owners wishing to install new sidewalks or to repair damaged sidewalks.
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT SIDEWALK PROGRAM
The City contracts for the installation of concrete sidewalk and granite curbing.
The City pays for the granite curbing. The owner pays for the sidewalk over a ten-year period at no interest. A lien is placed on the property until the payment is made in full.
CURBING REIMBURSEMENT SIDEWALK PROGRAM
The property owner retains a contractor to install sidewalk and granite curbing. The property owner is responsible to pay the contractor directly for the sidewalk. The City pays the contractor $21.50 per foot for granite curbing.
If you are interested in either of the two programs, please contact Public Works at 823-3798 and a cost estimate and application will be mailed to you. |
| What are my responsibilities for snow, ice and sleet removal? |
Residents and property owners are reminded that Norwich Code of Ordinances requires property owners to maintain sidewalks in front or on the side of their property. This includes the removal of snow, sleet and ice from these sidewalks. Abutting property owners have 3 hours after a storm, or after sunrise when a storm occurs at night, to remove snow, sleet or ice from their sidewalks. What are the rules for maintenance of shrubs, trees and bushes on my property?
|
Residents and property owners are reminded that the Norwich Code of Ordinances requires property owners to maintain sidewalks in front on on the side of their property. Overgrown tree limbs, shrubs and bushes that block the passage on sidewalks or city streets are violations of the code. If property owners fail to maintain trees or shrubs on their property, the Department of Public Works will take action to trim or remove vegetation at the property owner's expense. With the school year about to begin, it is important to ensure the City's sidewalks are free of obstructions to children on their way to school. Your cooperation is appreciated.
