PAY TAXES ONLINE

In order to pay taxes online, you must NOW click on "View/Pay Property Tax Bills" from the Home page or "Tax Bill Inquiry and Payments" from the Tax Collector's page.  The Tax Collector's page is located under Finance.

Payments can now be made by an ACH transfer from a checking or savings account OR you can now pay with a Credit or Debit Card (Visa, Mastercard or Discover).  Convenience fees differ by payment type.

To pay by ACH - $.50 per transaction.

To pay with a Credit Card - 3% of payment.

To pay with a Debit Card - $3.95 per transaction.

No receipts will be mailed. You will receive a confirmation email of your transaction.

Payments made after the grace period are subject to interest penalty, call the Tax Collector's office for the total amount due or view the amount by clicking on "Tax Bill Inquiry".

If you would like a receipt, they are available in the Tax Office at fifty cents a copy.

If any back taxes are owed, payment must be applied to the back taxes first. If payment is applied to back taxes, you will receive a receipt in the mail showing where your payment was applied.

If you owe back motor vehicle taxes and need a Department of Motor Vehicle clearance in order to register or reregister a vehicle, you would receive a clearance quicker by paying in person at the Tax Collector's office with either cash, a bank check, money order or credit card.

Occasionally payments made online by ACH have been returned because an account could not be located or there was insufficient funds.  Those payments are treated similarily to a personal check in that there would be a wait for anyone needing a D.M.V. clearance.  Payments that are made by Credit or Debit Cards and processed in our computer system in the tax office are considered immediate payments.

Payments made by ACH that are returned due to insufficient funds (NSF) are subject to a $20.00 fee.  Payments made by ACH that are returned due to a bad account or an account that could not be located (incorrect information) will be charged a $20.00 fee if the payment is not replaced within 10 business days.

Motor vehicle and personal property tax bills from the Grand List 2006 and prior must be paid through the Rossi Law Offices LTD of Smithfield, RI.  You may contact them at www.PayRossiLaw.com.  Their phone number is:  1-800-647-6774.
