| Welcome to Norwich, the Rose of New England and ranked the 57th “best small city to do business in” by Forbes Magazine in 2008! As long time resident of Norwich, I am excited to see the momentum that is moving this city to become an active participant in its future and as Mayor, I am proud to be part of the changes.
Norwich is a long established small city with a strong sense of community and neighborliness. It has an arts community that sponsors a number of festivals and concerts for all ages and interests. It boasts a picturesque harbor at the city center suitable for large and small pleasure craft, an expanding collection of restaurants and pubs, an Arts District that is home to two off Broadway theaters and exhibition space for visual arts displays, and a summer farmer’s market. A short walk up Main Street is Slater Museum with unique paintings and castings as well as a soon to grow ADA atrium. A short walk in the other direction is the newly renovated Otis Library. The historic structures downtown and at the beautiful mill sites, offer unique opportunities to experience Norwich’s rich past. Norwich is an equal distance between Boston and New York for anyone wishing to travel there from here. We are also located between the Mohegan Sun Casino and Foxwoods Casino.
Throughout our 350 year history, Norwich has a proud record of being pro business. Last November our voters approved a municipal bond, creating 3 new programs for public/private partner help within our downtown center. Our next 5 years 3 million will be available. Public dollars are accessible by private investment and job creation offers that equal public contribution. We offer a modern 450-acre business park, our own municipal and utility services and a positive outlook for growth. As Norwich’s Mayor, and economic development champion, I am committed to keeping Norwich business friendly through proper management and public/private partnerships.
Enjoying life is easy in Norwich. New England’s beautiful four seasons and the closeness of a small community makes Norwich an ideal spot to live, visit and employ. We invite you to visit us and see and experience life here in the Rose of New England.
Sincerely
Peter Albert Nystrom, Mayor
