How to Apply

Accepting Applications

Applicants are required to complete a City of Norwich employment application for each position sought.

You must apply online.

You are required to complete all questions with an asterisk.

This application will be used as part of the selection process. Your responses will be used to determine whether or not you meet the minimum qualifications of the position.

Clearly describe your qualifications in detail. Credit cannot be given for education, training, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities that you fail to indicate.

Although you may upload a resume to further describe your qualifications, it does not substitute for completing the application form. An incomplete application form may result in disqualification.

Do not write “see resume” in your work history, education or responses to any supplemental questions.

If you upload a document you should check to be sure you attached it correctly.

Failure to comply with these instructions may result in disqualification.

Your Responsibilities

Create a user account. Each applicant must have their own account.

Before submitting your application to the City of Norwich, it is your responsibility to ensure correctness of all information submitted in the application. If you would like a copy of the application for your records, it is your responsibility to print a copy of the application.

You are required to provide a valid email address. Check to be sure that you receive an email confirming your application was sent to the City of Norwich. This email is sent immediately upon receipt of your application. You should receive this confirmation within one day of clicking the “Submit Application” button.

If you do not receive the confirmation email, it is your responsibility to contact the City of Norwich. If you fail to do so, your application may not be considered for the position for which you applied.

The Examination and Interview

Applications are reviewed by the Human Resources Department staff.  You will be notified via email if you do/do not qualify for the position.

To be considered further for a position with the City, you must pass an examination for each regular position.  After the examination, you will receive email notification of your test results. Candidates that pass the exam are placed on an Eligibility List that is specific to that position, in descending order of final exam score.

When there is a current opening and you placed among the top candidates on the Eligibility List, your name will be included on a Certification List, in alphabetical order, and sent to the appointing authority, who is the department head.  You will then be contacted for an interview.

Qualifications

To be given proper consideration, please include all of your qualifications, education, and experience. It is the responsibility of the applicant to indicate clearly how you meet the minimum qualifications of the position. It is also the responsibility of the applicant to notify Human Resources with any change of email address, physical address, phone number, or status affecting eligibility for employment.

Qualified individuals with a disability that requires special accommodation under the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act should contact the Human Resources Department at 860-823-3836 at least two weeks prior to the examination date. Appropriate documentation will be required.
